Effects of Olfactory Stimulation with Grapefruit and Lavender Odors on Electrogastrogram

The study measured electrogastrograms (EGGs) during olfactory stimulation with different concentrations of lavender and grapefruit odors. Nonlinear analyses were used due to the stochastic nature of EGGs. The Wayland algorithm showed no difference in translation error between the groups. The False Nearest Neighbors (FNN) method indicated different minimum embedding dimensions based on odor concentration, but a new method without arbitrary thresholds consistently estimated this dimension as 2, suggesting it is less affected by noise. These findings support the use of nonlinear analyses to evaluate the effects of olfactory stimulation on EGGs.
